My first post!

Happy Easter everyone!
I'm going to be a senior next year, and at my high school we have this graduation requirement called "Senior Projects". It is a project that a student has to complete and it has to benefit the community. Some requirements are that the student has to have an essay written along with it and a presentation that is given at the end of the year. It is also required for each student to have an adult mentor to keep him or her in check. Since theatre is such a huge part of my life, I decided that I wanted to direct a show for my senior project.
I directed a ten-minute play this past winter known as "The Road to Ruin" by Robert Dresser. I was also the assistant director of my school's spring play this year, The Crucible by Arthur Miller. Having leadership in those two shows has given me a little bit of directing experience.
The show that I will be directing is Steel Magnolias, by Robert Harling. I'm going to be documenting this whole experience by blogging on this site. What you will see on here is my journey through this whole process. I will be evaluating my research, my auditions, my rehearsals, and everything else. It will be interesting to see how this all turns out, but I have so much excitement for it! For those of you who do not know, Steel Magnolias is a full length, two-act drama with 6 principle women (There is also an extra male voice heard offstage). It takes place at a beauty salon in Chinquapin, a fictional small town in Louisiana.
I already have a couple of steps complete. I have a stage manager, and my high school theatre coordinator is going to be my mentor. I still need to find a technical director, which is my goal for this week.
My auditions are going to be on the last week of school, and the performance date is going to be in late September. Even though it seems far away, there is a lot of work that I need to get done before that time comes around, even before audtions. I am expecting a numerous amount of posts on this blog by the time I am ready for this show.

I can't wait to see how this all unravels!
